So it sounds like it just keeps light out so that the colors can be seen by the photographer better and in older cameras it helped to keep light off of the film maybe...

So far, I can't find a web page with an explination. I think it has something to do with blocking light so you can see the colors better but I would like to read about it.

Any help out there?
