cdArchive:
14 gig out of 25 left on my WinXP_music (I:/) partition.

Just another note. I am still working my way through our CD Collection and hit about 5 or 6 tori amos singles and 3 or 4 song disks...most of the songs were the same. That should blend itself to hearing more tori as the whole collection is playing. I also did a kids music cd that had like 38 songs on it...
workStuff:
Well the iMacs are here but we do not have our network log-ins yet. I am hopeing to get it before we leave today. We have an early out at 2pm today.

myPC:
I reburnt bladerunner last night and it still crashed the pc. I tried it on the DVD player and it seemed to be ok. It only crashes or studders on the pc during the later chapters , 24 till the end. I was also watching Office Space that I had backed up and it to frooze up toward the end. I didnt have a chance to try it on the DVD player yet. I did check out the bladerunner burn I had done on the Verbatium DVDRW and it workd fine in the later chapters, I guess there is something to the better quality blanks. As long as i can play them on the DVD player I will be happy. I would like to grab a couple better quality blanks and see how they work out.

dvdRentals:
I cancelled my netflix trial account on Saturday and they sent out a dvd to me on Monday that I havent received yet. According to the cancellation rules I have to have all Disks back to them by the 11. I email them to let them know that I haven't received it yet and I dont think it can get back to them on time. Hope fully this will avoid me getting billed.

myPC:
I had my first bad dvd burn last night. The movie (Blade Runner) locks up the pc on PowerDVD when you goto to chapter 24 or later. In WMP9 it freezes but doesn't lock up the PC. In our DVD player (APEX 1100) it gets very choppy in any chapter past 24. I went back to the PC and looked at the ripped movie and it was ok so I opened Nero and made a burn of just the movie onto a DVD-RW and it worked fine. Tonight Ill try to make the same burn to a regular blank DVD.

dvdRentals:
We watched Freida last night. Guys don't pass this one up you get to see "lots" of Selma and find out that Freida went both ways...the movie in general is really good too, although we didn't back this one up we choose to put it on our buy list.

workStuff:
I am still waiting for our iMacs. I can't wait to play with OSX.

myPC:
The nec 2500a that I recently bought looks like it can be flashed to remove the Region Code and a rip speed lock. Now I have not had a problem with the drive. Maybe if I wasn't new to DVD ripping I would be able to tell the speed problem but it seems to do it pretty fast. I probably dont need to to flash it but I like doing that kind of stuff. I have used DVDInfoPro to find the firmware I currently have. 1.06 and the extra 03121900. The new firmware looks like it gives you 1.062003121900, the only difference being the 20. I dont know if i am looking in the wrong place and not seeing the whole number together or what. So I need to do some more research before I go messing with it.

workStuff:
Well i was late for my mini-InDesign class toady at work. We are currently using Quark 4 for our layout work and in moving over to OSX and the new iMacs they (TVguide) hace decided to just use Adobe products. Not a bad thing, InDesign is pretty impressive.

Im looking forward to the new machines though. Right now most of the G3's we have can't handle haveing Acrobat and Quark open at the same time and have about 2gig of free space which we fill up quickly, I'll only be missing the 19inch monitor.

myPC:
I continued with my CD's to PC project last night and even moved all the music files over to the bigger 25gig partition. I think I am about half way done so I hope the free 15gig will make it.

otherStuff:
I started up my Walmart DVD rental over the weekend. We will see how that goes. It's 2 DVD's out at a time for a month free. It's $16 a month after that or like Netflix you can pay @$20 for 3 out.

homeStuff:
With our 2nd child on the way we have been thinking of de-animal-lizing ourselves. We have 3 cats.We got them about '97-a black cat(Mister Kitty @8 years old and grey-white cat 2 years old(Missy) , they came with the names. Last summer i stupidly was suduced by a red-long haired kitten we called him Riley. So take a year old cat a 14 and 8 year old cat and what do you get...chaos mass chaos. The kittin jumps the other cats the other cats hiss and fight and ....just chaos...and poopsmell and seperating cats to feed them....chaos, blah.

myPC:
I finnally got around to connecting the PC to the stereo. Ever since I first started getting CD's, mid '80s, I have always wanted a way to play them all randomly. I did finnally get a 5 disk changer, but you still had to get up and find the cds you wanted to put in. I always had my eye on one of those 500disk changers :o) I am happy to say that I am about 1/3 the way through ripping my cd collection to my PC. I didnt have the hard drive space available before. I have an 11 gig partition for music now. There is a little over 3.5 gig left in that partition. What I may end up doing is moving the music collection over to the partition I have for ripping DVD's which is 25 gig. I can always steal some of the 20gigs that the Linux partition is using(Ill go into why I am not using linux more later).
I am using WMP9 to rip the cds, dbAmp to convert them to MP3s and play the music. I may go back WinAmp once all the ripping is done. I know that one program can probably do everything but for now this system is working well.
I love having my whole collection(well part of it so far) playing randomly. My wife(low tech) is even enjoying it. We are hopeing to get CD Binders and get rid of any Gem Cases and save a huge amount of space.
On other notes I am going to have to make a small partition for WinMe or 98 just for the scanner that WinXP nor Linux will support(visioneer 6400).

2003Taxes:
Although I have finished Federal Taxes I still have local and state to file. This is the project for the week.

rentedDVD's:
If you are or were a skateboarder from the late 80's you should rent or buy a couple of these DVD's,
DRIVE: My Life in Skateboarding- Mike Vallely was and is awsome and really expresses skateing as I see it.
Dogtown and the z-Boys: This is your history lesson of skateboarding.

Other recent DVD's: Office Space, The Others, Hitchhikers Guide. Man NetFlix and Walmart DVD rental make it easy to "rip" through a ton of movies...wow it will be though to decide not to sign up once I get through the free trial periods.

netStuff:
slickdeals.net-I have been watching some people trying to take advantage of a 50$ of $50 coupon from staples. It looks like Staples got wise to it and started adding an additional charge to peoples credit cards. Some people might get away with it, it always seems like its worth a try to get in on these deals. The deal was dead by the time i tried it.
kent.com- We bought a 12 bike for my son last weekend. It was a kent and I wanted to check out their web site so I just guessed kent.com. Wow, kent dot com is cool but it's not about bikes. This guy has his whole freaking house wired with a capitol W! I'm green with envy. I was happy just to get my PC hooked up to my stereo.

myPC:
Once in a while I look for firm ware/ driver updates for my hardware. Today I have been looking for updates for my Sony CRX 140. I found a page with some firmware but, there were no explanations for them so Ill look around a bit more.

vc++:
I wrote this code today, I still have to finish a function and put it through a compiler at home. Its just an exercise from our book:

void getPep(String *&, double &);
void calcAdmission(double, double &);
void showRun(double , double, double);

int main()
{
String *compName="";
String *answer="Y";
double numPep=0.0;
double totalPep=0.0;
double compCharge=0.0;
double avgCharge=0.0;

do
{
numPep=0.0;
showRun(totalPep,
totalCharge, avgCharge);
getPep(compName, numPep);
calcAdmission(numPep, compCharge);
totalPep=totalPep+numPep;
avgCharge=(totalCharge/ totalPep);
totalCharge=(totalCharge+
compCharge);
Console::Right("Would you like to enter another company?(Y or N) ");
answer=Convert::ToUpper (Console::ReadLine());
}
while(answer!="N");
//end do

//functions

void getPep(String *&co, double &np)
{
Console::Write("Please enter the company name: ");
co=Console::ReadLine();
Console::Write("How many people from {0} will be attending?" ,co);
np=Convert::ToDouble (Console::ReadLine());
}

workStuff:
I work at TV Guide. They are changing over to a electronic time sheet next week. Kronos. I was happy to find out that I was exempt and didn't have to punch in and out daily.
We are going to be moving to OSX (finally) by next month and also getting new iMacs. They only have 17inch flat screens....ugh. Right now we have g3's with a nice 19 inch monitor...

otherStuff:
The Microcenter near us has some dvd-r spindles of 25 for 15 bucks. I bought one and burned about 5 so far with no problems. They are only 2x but I am in no rush.
